Delete your account

Delete your account and everything in it from the console or the CLI, what happens step by step, and what is kept by law.

Deleting your account removes everything in it: every Kiste with its disk, every snapshot and checkpoint, published ports, API keys, webhooks, environments, images, device keys, sign-ins and your account data. It can't be undone.

Copy what you need first

Download your files from your Kisten and, if you like, export your data before you delete the account.

How

In the console, open Account, choose Delete account, type your e-mail address and your password, and confirm.

With CLI 0.1.1 or later:

kiste account delete
kiste account delete --confirm you@example.com --password-stdin < password.txt

The CLI asks for your e-mail address as confirmation and for your password unless you pass them. The API offers the same as DELETE /v1/me.

Deletion needs your own sign-in (the console or a CLI sign-in) and your password; an API key can't delete an account (A30).

What happens

  1. At once: you are signed out everywhere, every CLI sign-in, API key and device key stops working, and open desktops and terminals close. The account can't sign in again.
  2. Then: the subscription is cancelled with Stripe, and your Kisten, their disks and local snapshots are deleted and published ports and links stop answering. The automatic clean-up of Kisten is being rolled out; until it is live, this step follows after the sign-out step instead of within minutes.
  3. Off-site copies of your checkpoints become unreadable as soon as the compute side has deleted your account's encryption key. The encrypted objects themselves are removed after the storage's retention period.

What is kept

Records of payments are kept for the period tax law requires, without your e-mail address. A minimal record that a deletion took place (its ID and times, nothing about you) is kept for three years.
